Your Path to Recovery

Assessment

Your path to recovery begins with a thorough assessment of your condition. We assess how your condition or injury is affecting you and what results you want from your treatment. We then give you a detailed, straightforward explanation of your problem and discuss the treatment options and evidence based techniques available to treat your condition.

Treatment

As every person is different we then work with you one-on-one to develop a personalised treatment plan that is manageable and designed to get the desired results. This may consist of exercises to reduce your pain, postural correction, manual therapy mobilisation, stretches, exercises to develop strength and flexibility, and education.

Prevention

Finally we give you all the information and self-management tools and techniques to prevent recurrences.

The McKenzie Method

80% of all people will experience back pain at some stage of their life. 75% can benefit from self treatment. As one of only a handful of Certified McKenzie Clinics in the world, Celia Monk Physiotherapy is uniquely qualified to help you treat your own back or neck and get pain-free with the McKenzie Method®.

Celia Monk is also a McKenzie Institute tutor and teaches the McKenzie Method to doctors, physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors.

The McKenzie Method uses a philosophy of active patient involvement to treat back pain, neck pain and extremity problems. Also known as Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT), the McKenzie Method is a 3 step process designed to give you the knowledge, tools and techniques you need to self treat and control your back and neck pain and manage your condition to prevent recurrence.

The McKenzie method was the result of an accidental discovery by a physiotherapist named Robin McKenzie while treating a back patient. He realised he had seen a simple but yet undiscovered process for the treatment of mechanical back and neck problems.

From small beginnings, the McKenzie Method is now used by practitioners and patients all over the world for back pain, neck pain and extremity pain problems.

McKenzie Institute

The goal of McKenzie Institute International is to further the philosophies and treatments for spinal disorders, as developed by Robin McKenzie, through:

  • Education of healthcare providers
  • Research into spinal disorders
  • Promotion of "The McKenzie Method"

There are now 26 international branches of the McKenzie Institute. To find out more about the Institute; visit www.mckenziemdt.org.nz
